Ah.... all good things come to pass.......8/5/17. For us the long haul... it could have been slower but it is time to be home. The drive across the mid states was not as planned... just could not do the real slabs all the way. We left the highway 80 a few hours out of Boise and headed up north on 220 .... it is what should be called 'big sky' .... just can't take it's picture... one could stare in one direction for hours and then turn a degree... it is that big. I just calms you down. We crossed Idaho and into Wyoming to Alcova, a reservoir at nearly 5000 feet, head of the Platt river... we camped there, then the next day on across to Nebraska..... the grass lands.... hundreds of miles of seas of grass with antelope and deer and of course cows. Everything was small due to the scale, the depth of view. This altitude suits me, as it did in Arizona/New Mexico at the same altitude. the flat to rolling grasslands where one can go out far enough to loose oneself and sit. Stars come out and there is quiet. One feels as small as one should feel in the reality of how big IT all is. It makes one think. That is a good thing.
The trouble of going back home is that the things in one's head that are there waiting come to life and start the return before it happens. Jobs/work waiting... the chores and bills... duties... it is the part of the price of the trip. We stopped at the old Fort Robinson now historical site for a look around and picnic. A long history that is both dark and bright. We did a short day in miles not time and then had to make it up today...we "camped" (set up) in a small town camp site in Nebraska.... somewhere Nebraska... and bugged out early at 6 AM to try a long day ...leave mid Nebraska, cross all of Iowa and then into Illinois to sleep... bad timing as it was the weekend and camp sites close to the Mississippi and thereafter east are full to the brim with road-barns cheek to cheek with lawn chairs and flags. Getting away from it all and bringing it with them.
We are in a camp site in a Rec. area overflowing with humanity. Ear plugs for sure tonight as loud speakers closely announce the fun in a nearby festival. Tomorrow just six hours from Kentucky for a looked forward to pop in visit with the in-laws before our two eight hour day drive north to the hills of Massachusetts.... the shire of the Buckland Manor.
Traveling, since 2011 camping in our Four Wheeled Camper Eagle model, to places as remote as possible.
